Women’s T20 Challenge

Velocity vs Supernovas ,Women’s T20 Challenge,Velocity win by 7 wicket

A 7 wicket win for Velocity – the highest chase in WT20 Challenge – has helped it get off the blocks on the points table. As for Supernovas, the lack of a colourful display tonight was perhaps the result of its opener from yesterday. With two matches in under 24 hours, the exhaustion has likely not settled down. Harmanpreet’s heroics regardless, the Supernovas will presently need to hang tight for the consequence of the Trailblazers-Velocity conflict to make the last.

VEL 151/3 in 18.2 overs: Dottin tails one in and Wolvaardt hits it straight to mid-on. No run. In the slot and Wolvaardt smokes it over long-on for SIX! The scores are level as Wolvaardt notches up a 35-ball FIFTY. Wide to finish and Velocity gets off to a winning start

Velocity needs 32 runs in 30 balls.

VEL 119/3 in 15 overs: Dottin pushes through a fine over. Three dots to tighten the screws with no room on offer. She follows up with a delivery right in the blockhole outside off-stump to Deepti.

VEL 117/3 in 14 overs: Deepti sweeps a full-toss first-up for a single. Wolvaardt carves the ball past point for a crisp FOUR. Short from Harman and Wolvaardt quickly shuffles to pull the ball off her pads for FOUR behind square.

Harmanpreet Kaur into the attack

VEL 105/3 in 13 overs: Wolvaardt and Deepti work around the field for singles. 100 up for Velocity and the chase looks pretty manageable at the moment. Deepti unleashes a fine sweep to find FOUR through mid-wicket. FOUR more, this time from Wolvaardt as she pulls the short ball down to the fine-leg boundary.

VEL 82/3 in 10 overs: In the air and Harmanpreet Kaur pulls off an absolute ripper at short-third! Shafali is in disbelief as her late-cut finds Harman flying full-length to the left to latch onto the ball with one hand. Deepti Sharma walks in at 5. Still no signs of the explosive Navgire.

Shafali Verma c Kaur b Dottin 51 (33b 9×4 1×6)

VEL 77/2 in 9 overs: Alana King flips one in to hit Shafali’s pad and the umpire raises her finger. Shafali instantly opts for a review. She escapes as the ball flies over the wickets. FIFTY for Shafali off 30 balls with a single. King slides one down leg and Wolvaardt quickly glides it past short-fine leg for FOUR.

Shafali’s 30-ball fifty is the fastest in WT20 Challenge.

VEL 48/1 in 5 overs: Ecclestone rolls one in and Shafali casually lofts the ball down the ground for FOUR to long-on. Shafali mirrors the previous shot with a crisp drive to long-off for FOUR. In the air and dropped! Dottin spills a sitter at point. That’s a rare sight right there! Shafali gets a tame outside-edge from the fuller length. Shafali follows up with another fiery stroke down the ground but is kept down to two runs.

VEL 12/1 in 2 overs: Vastrakar hits the deck hard first-up. Chantham responds with a firm push to cover. OUT! Chantham falls cheaply as Vastrakar strikes early once again. Impeccable line from Vastrakar as she induces the outside-edge off the fuller length. The ball sails straight to wide-slip and the Supernovas have created an early in-road. Yastika Bhatia in at 3. Vastrakar greets her with a good bouncer. A single gets her off the mark. Wide from Vastrakar. Vastrakar hits the length and Shafali gets the ‘Nataraja’ rolling with a nice flick off the pads for FOUR through square-leg.

Natthakan Chantham c Kaur b Vastrakar 1 (4b)

VEL 6/0 in 1 over: A good ball outside the off-stump to start and Shafali defends it sturdily. Ecclestone tosses one in and Shafali quickly steps out and eases the ball past the bowler for FOUR. Ecclestone tightens her line and follows up with two dots. Shafali shimmies down and Ecclestone quickly slides one down leg for the keeper. Bhatia fails to get hold of the ball as the batters find a single

Sophie Ecclestone takes the new ball. Verma on strike.

Shafali Verma and Natthakhan Chantham open for Velocity.

Back for the chase. The Supernovas have taken the field.

Velocity needs 151 to win. Stay tuned…

Harmanpreet Kaur, 71 (51): In the end, I am happy we were to able to score some decent runs. We have a good bowling side. We need to keep looking for wickets and if we do early on, we have a good chance to win this match.

SNO 150/5 in 20 overs: finally connects the ball to the boundary with a sweep behind square for FOUR. A single to follow as Luus nearly finds the long-on fielder on the full. Deepti rolls in a full-toss and Luus thumps it down the ground for FOUR. The Supernovas get to 150 and would be certainly be content with this finish, given its rocky start.

Deepti Sharma up for the final over

SNO 138/5 in 19 overs: Harmanpreet moves into the 70s with another cracking slog-sweep for SIX! Through the gates and Radha cleans up Harmanpreet. She departs after a well-made 71 off 51 balls. Radha wafted the ball in towards the legs and extracted enough turn to fox Harman’s charge down the wicket. The ball crashes into the leg-stump as Supernovas eye 150 with an over to spare.

Harmanpreet Kaur b Yadav 71 (51b 7×4 3×6)

Radha Yadav into the attack

SNO 129/4 in 18 overs: Rana pushes the ball wide on the tram-line and keeps it beyond Harman’s reach. Harmanpreet shuffles across for a slog-sweep but misses as Rana tosses one in quickly. Loud shot from the bowler as the umpire denies the appeal. Velocity opts for a review. Harmanpreet survives as the replasy suggest Umpire’s Call on Impact. Harman attempts another shuffle but ends up getting an inside-edge past short fine-leg for FOUR. And the Harman-power prevails, finally. Rana hits the slot this time and Harmanpreet slog-sweeps in style for SIX! Poof. Harmanpreet nimbly charges down and smokes the ball over the bowler for FOUR.

SNO 103/4 in 15 overs: Khaka errs with a loose delivery down leg and Taniya flicks it for FOUR past short-fine leg. A single to follow. Harman fails to clear wicketkeeper Yastika with a sweep and Taniya is halfway down the crease. Mix-up and Taniya is caught short of her crease with an excellent pick-up and throw from Yastika. A bizarre way to go just when things were looking bright for the Supernovas. Sune Luus in at 6.

Taniya Bhatia run out (†Bhatia/Khaka) 36 (32b 3×4)

SNO 94/3 in 14 overs: Deepti tosses the ball outside-off and yet Harmanpreet shuffles across to sweep and bisect the square-leg and mid-wicket fielder for FOUR! Harman and Taniya find the gaps with more regularity all of a sudden and Deepti concedes 11 runs upon return.

SNO 57/3 in 9 overs: Radha comes over the wicket to Taniya who lifts it over mid-on for a single. Harman sweeps to square-leg for one run. Radha maintains a tight line around the leg-stump and the batters continue to deal in singles. Five runs off the over.

SNO 29/3 in 6 overs: Khaka strays down leg and the ball clips Taniya to slide past short-fine leg for two runs. A couple of singles to follow. Excellent PowerPlay for Velocity with the ball.

Deandra Dottin c †Bhatia b Sharma 6 (9b 1×4)

SNO 14/2 in 3 overs: Width from Cross again and Harleen slams it through point for another FOUR. There goes another! Harleen holes out to backward point. Cross’ excellent riposte undoes a rash heave across the line. She wafts in a slower-ball and Harleen mistimes it altogether to Wolvaardt who makes no mistake. Taniya Bhatia in at 4.

Harleen Deol c Wolvaardt b Cross 7 (9b 1×4)

SNO 8/1 in 2 overs: Deepti begins with a fuller delivery that lands right under Harleen’s bat. Harleen gets a single with a push to long-on. Three singles off the over.

Deepti Sharma into the attack

SNO 5/1 in 1 over: Cross begins with a gentle loosener outside the off-stump and Punia elegantly cuts the ball past backward point for FOUR. A dot to follow. In the air and Punia holes out to cover! Slower ball sticks in the pitch for a moment and Punia mistimes a drive straight to the fielder. Harleen in at 3. Loud shout as Cross hits Harleen’s pads. That was plumb in line but a faint inside-edge seems to have saved the batter.

Priya Punia c Khaka b Cross 4 (3b 1×4)

Kate Cross up with the new ball. Punia on strike.

Action begins… Velocity fielders are walking out to the field. Priya Punia and Deandra Dottin open for Supernovas.

Velocity Playing XI: Shafali Verma, Laura Wolvaardt, Yastika Bhatia(w), Natthakan Chantham, Deepti Sharma(c), Kiran Navgire, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav, Kate Cross, Ayabonga Khaka, Maya Sonawane

Supernovas Playing XI: Deandra Dottin, Priya Punia, Sune Luus, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Harleen Deol, Taniya Bhatia(w), Sophie Ecclestone, Alana King, V Chandu, Pooja Vastrakar, Meghna Singh

Laura Wolvaardt, Velocity: Think we have covered all the bases. This team has a completely different look to what it was last year. We got a good balance of batters and bowlers with a few senior players and youngsters as well. Think it might be a bit slower in the noon and a belter under the lights. It’s nice to have her (Ayabonga Khaka) in my side, we have been spending a lot of time together.
