You need to have a vision that you can scale and implement:  Mr. Govind Singh

BHU: You need to have a vision that you can scale and implement, said Mr. Govind Singh, the Managing Director, and CEO of Utkarsh Small Finance bank. In his former capacity as a business head, he has the experience of overseeing the largest microfinance portfolio for any commercial Bank in India.

While inaugurating the four-day induction program at the Institute of Management Studies, Banaras Hindu University, he warmly addressed the students of the upcoming batch 2022-24 and talked about the importance of ownership and accountability when stepping into the corporate world.

He talked about how he studied the geography of Varanasi and made the unconventional decision of expanding the lending business there, which proved to be extremely successful. He added” Be a risk taker. But take calculated risks. You should learn from your past but not let its fear hold you back from being powerful mentally. That is the only way to be successful.”

Govind Singh shared with the students, the most important managerial lesson he has learned- “look for both comfort and opportunities where you work”. He emphasized efficiencies and corporate governance being the driving factor behind success in any industry be it Banking, FMCG, or Information Technology. The students should do whatever they want, and they must strive for excellence.

He mentioned that anyone can learn the tips and tricks of work, but passion guides a person to success. At the end of his speech, he praised BHU and highlighted the competitive environment at BHU which leads the students on the path to success.

The ceremony was successfully conducted in the physical model at the institute premises at Varanasi after two years, owing to the pandemic-induced disruption. In the welcome address, the Director of the Institute, Prof. SK Dubey, affirmed the long-standing legacy of the institute in imparting quality managerial education since 1968. He enthusiastically welcomed the aspiring entrants and emphasized the importance of management in all aspects of life.

The program included an introductory session where the students from the new batch talked about themselves, their educational backgrounds, and interests, thus highlighting the diverse backgrounds which have come together to study under BHU’s MBA program.

Prof Amit Gautam, the coordinator of the inaugural function, also addressed the students and congratulated them on becoming a part of the prestigious Institute. He added, “the main objective of this program is to prepare the students for their upcoming two-year MBA journey”. He also talked about the various amenities and facilities provided at the institute, for the benefit of the students.
