Successful workshop on Platelet Signaling and Thrombus Biology Organized
BHU : Intending to catalyze research and development (R&D) activities in academic institutions across India in the field of Research on Platelet Signaling and Thrombus Biology Dr Kamlesh Palandurkar and Prof D. Dash from the Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, organized a four-day workshop from October 18th to 21st 2022 SERB/ICMR-Sponsored High-End Workshop (KARYASHALA) “ Methods in Platelet Signalling and Thrombus Biology” at Centre for Advanced Research on Platelet Signalling and Thrombus Biology (ICMR), Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University and Regional Resource Center Telemedicine IMS BHU.
The workshop envisioned creating among faculty, students, and research Scholars an awareness of the importance of challenging research problems in Platelet Signalling and Thrombus Biology in the country. Distinguished experts from the Institute of Medical Sciences BHU, Prof Prof. Debabrata Dash Dr Kamlesh Palandurkar Dr Kiran Giri, Dr Sandip Kumar, Dr Susheel N. Chaurasia, Dr Jyotsna, Md. Ekhlak, Dr Shruti Mishra, Dr Nitesh Singh from other parts of India Prof. K. Kemparaju (Professor, Department of Biochemistry, University of Mysore), Dr Prasenjit Guchhait (Professor, UNESCO-DBT Regional Centre for Biotechnology, NCR Biotech Science Cluster, Faridabad), Dr Kesthuru S Girish (Associate Professor, Tumkur University Tumakuru, Karnataka) and Dr Heena Tabassum (Scientist, Division of Basic Medical Sciences, Indian Council of Medical Research) and International researchers Dr Manasa K. Nayak, (Research Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, University of Iowa), Dr Paresh P Kulkarani from the University of Cleveland, guided this workshop in the area of platelet and thrombosis.
IMS BHU Director Professor SK Singh Inaugurated the workshop and expressed his satisfaction with conducting this high-end workshop and also expected that organisers will make this an annual event. Dr SP Mishra Head of the Department of Biochemistry expressed his delight at the participation from all the corners and states of the country. Prof NK Agrawal Vice Dean of Research IMS BHU emphasised the translational part of the research.
More than 200 participants joined this workshop to learn high-end techniques of Platelet aggregometry, Flow cytometry and signalling, Intravital microscopy, Thromboelastography (TEG) and Confocal Microscopy.
This workshop encouraged researchers to undertake research on the top global causes of death, in order of the total number of lives lost thromboembolic diseases including ischaemic heart disease and stroke top the chart with more than 60 % of the total number. The lectures also discussed how COVID-19 had increased heart attacks and other thrombotic diseases by more than 30% than last year and discussed the mechanism for the same and its solutions.
Prof. D. Dash was the coordinator and Dr Kamlesh Palandurkar was the Organizing Secretary, Prof. S.P. Mishra, Prof Ragini Srivastava, Dr Avijit Mukharjee Biochemistry IMS, Dr H. B. Sharma from Physiology, Dr Kiran Giri from Pharmacology, Dr Nitesh Singh, Dr Sushil N Chourasia, Mohammad Ekhlak Vipin Singh, Rajender Ji, Umesh, Aklesh from and Shashi Prajapati, Amit Mishra, Abhay Mishra, Abhijeet Prajapati, Deepak Ojha, Shreya Singh, Anil Giri from Regional Resource Centre of Telemedicine IMS BHU took efforts for successful conduction of this workshop.
